TISH Jewish Food Festival: CRAFT

The 7th edition of TISH Jewish Food Festival will focus on CRAFT. We will talk about local cuisine and artisanal traditions that were once a very prominent presence in both pre-war shtetls and big cities. We will also take a closer look at new handicraft traditions and will meet with today’s artisans.

  • Some events will be translated into the Polish Sign Language

Program of TISH Jewish Food Festival: CRAFT →

Get ready for five exceptional days of culinary meetings, workshops and urban walks and tours. We will also wait for you from morning till evening in milk bars and at Browary Warszawskie!

During the festival, we will eat breakfast together at the market and meet with producers of local and organic food. Flour and baked goods will be one of the main themes of this year’s TISH Festival edition—we will listen to stories about Warsaw’s mills, and Alessia Di Donato will take us on a Polish-Italian journey through baked goods, accompanied by tasting, of course! We will also embroider Yiddish wall hangings and weave bread baskets. The festival offers a unique opportunity to explore objects from our collection related to culinary culture. And on Friday evening, after the lights go out in the museum, we will yet again gather in the main hall for a Shabbat meal served at a lavishly set table.

This year, on each Festival day, we will be present at Browary Warszawskie, Warsaw Breweries, where local restaurants will prepare Jewish cuisine dishes especially for the TISH Festival. On Saturday, we will also revisit the history of the brewery and its vicinity. We know that stories about food are far less interesting without the food itself, that’s why most of our urban walks will be accompanied by food tasting.

Like each year, together with our volunteers, we will build a sukkah—a traditional booth for the holiday of Sukkot—next to the POLIN Museum building. As in previous years, we will decorate the sukkah, this time following in the footsteps of old-time artisans.

We will hit the town to attend meetings and workshops, and to listen to stories—and all that thanks to the events accompanying the festival, organized by Warsaw museums and non-governmental organizations!

We also recommend a visit at POLIN Museum’s Warsze bistro which has prepared a special menu on the occasion of the TISH Festival.

2022 TISH Festival was the laureate of the European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award for "tremendous importance for people across Europe and a strong example for other communities with a similar history."

Zofia Janina Borysiewicz is the author of the graphic design of the TISH Festival 7th edition.

TISH* (Yiddish for ‘table’) – in Jewish tradition, a joyous time spent dining, drinking, singing and talking while seated together at a table.

As in the previous years, TISH Jewish Food Festival takes place during the joyous holiday of Sukkot.
