The Green Team

In the era of the global climate crisis, cultural and arts institutions—especially public ones—are becoming important actors in shaping a sustainable approach to natural resources, raising awareness of the impact of human activity on nature, and minimizing its negative consequences.

For POLIN Museum, care for our shared future is essential, that’s why we are ready to face the challenges of the present. We seek to be part of the inevitable change—introducing environmentally responsible solutions within the institution, fostering pro-environmental attitudes among our audiences, and supporting the local community in caring for the local ecosystem.

Since 2023, a Green Team has been operating at POLIN Museum, composed of staff members from various departments and supported by the Museum’s management. The Green Team reviews the Museum’s day-to-day operations and recommends or implements environmentally responsible changes, particularly those that are "within our reach." These initiatives address areas such as sustainable transport and accommodation, ecological guidelines for the design of exhibitions and events, a green office approach, support for the local natural ecosystem, incorporating environmental themes into the Museum’s program and advocacy, as well as seeking solutions that support the well-being of our staff. The Green Team’s grassroots activities help strengthen awareness and change habits—among both the Museum staff and its visitors—while combining care for the heritage, the people, and the natural environment.

In 2024, the Green Team initiated and supervised an external environmental audit at the Museum. The review assessed both the institution’s compliance with environmental regulations and voluntary—but important—initiatives aimed at minimizing the Museum’s negative impact on the environment. A study of the staff’s well-being was an important part of the audit—its results and recommendations were discussed with the Museum’s management and with the entire staff.

In 2026, POLIN Museum was granted the Zero Waste Office Certificate.
