“People, Be Afraid” – an exhibition by young artists as part of the CoREM project

Collective Remembrance: Engaging Youth Through Curatorial Practices (CoREM) is an international initiative co-funded by the European Commission that engages young people in actively participating in activities related to the memory of the Holocaust and other genocides. We encourage you to visit the exhibition prepared by the project participants at the POLIN Museum.

About the CoREM Project

In the CoREM project—Collective Remembrance: Engaging Youth Through Curatorial Practices—co-funded by the European Commission, young people were not passive recipients of knowledge but co-creators of the activities. Participants took on the roles of curators of exhibitions and film festivals, collaborating with cultural and academic institutions and crafting their own narratives about memory, responsibility, and the future.

The project is being implemented in Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Armenia, and Spain—countries with complex experiences of violence and difficult histories. One of its most important elements is dialogue between young people and experts, as well as collaborative work on educational tools related to memory and responsibility.

The Exhibition “People, Be Afraid”

At the POLIN Museum, we wanted young people to engage with history personally and creatively. We combined curatorial activities with a reinterpretation of the museum’s sources, encouraging participants to ask difficult questions and make their own decisions. We used performative methods, elements of drama, and physical expression, which allowed the exhibits to serve as inspiration for the participants’ own interpretations.

The result of this process is an exhibition presenting young people’s personal and contemporary perspectives on the history of the Holocaust and the memory of violence.

We invite you to visit the exhibition from June 22 to September 15, 2026.
