POLIN on the Meadow – summer program of cultural events
We invite you to a green space of "POLIN on the Meadow" where you will celebrate warm days surrounded by nature and making use of a new functional and accessible outdoor installation. Your summertime will be enriched by, among others, music, literary and film events. This year, we also recommend meetings and workshops related to local social activism.
- 24 June – 31 August 2023
- Venue: POLIN on the Meadow (green square next to POLIN Museum from the side of Lewartowskiego St)
- Relax zone – a new meadow installation will be opened at the end of June
This year’s POLIN on the Meadow will open with a special music project titled "Chilling with Feldman" prepared by the members of Kwadrofonik and musicians who collaborate with the band. We will swap uncomfortable chairs for cushions, bean bags, deck chairs and blankets on the grass in order to be closer to nature and to get lost in Feldman’s meditative sounds.
There will be also something for the literature and cinema lovers. At the beginning of July, we will invite you for a whole day dedicated to literature—"BookShuk on the Meadow!" You will listen to new interpretations of well-known fairy tales written by American actress Nathalie Portman and read out by Katarzyna Łaska. You will learn interesting quotes from the texts by Jewish writers, selected by Sylwia Chutnik, and you will have an opportunity to print them on your T-shirt. On August evenings, you will enjoy watching cult movies from the 1980s and 1990s screened as part of the review of the films produced by the Warner Bros Studio who celebrate their centenary this year.
As each year, we will plant the Museum flower bed made up of flowers and herbs. This time, we organise a collective planting of the Meadow in cooperation with the Meadow Foundation whose main goal is to plant meadows in towns and cities and to educate on biodiversity. Come, we will "Plant the Meadow Together!" Traditionally, we invite you to the events which promote a sustainable way of life in harmony with nature—among others, herbarium workshops or walk in the footsteps of edible plants in Muranów.
Did you know that Jewish culture has its own equivalent of Danish hygge? In a series of meetings titled "Heymish—Shabat Meetings About Wellbeing" we will take a closer look at relations in three aspects of our lives—relation with body, with other people and with our own self.
We also invite you to other events in our program that are an elaboration on this year’s main motif of the remembering the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising—Thou Shalt Not Be Indifferent. We will debate on how to interpret this 11th commandment in line with today’s world, among others during a meeting devoted to social activism titled "Don’t Be Indifferent—Act!"
Come to the Meadow on foot, by tram or by bike! We invite all bike lovers to our befriended Open Bike Repair Shop in Muranów at 2 Wolności Street, where you will be able to repair your bike yourself (with specialist assistance and with access to tools), take part in workshops (also conducted in Ukrainian, Belarusian and Russian), buy a second-hand bike or donate parts you no longer need.
