Dariusz Stola
Director of POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews
Historian, professor at the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences. His research focuses on the history of Polish-Jewish relations, history of the People's Republic of Poland, and international migrations in the 20th century.
He is the author of 130 scholarly articles and 6 books on the postwar history of Poland, among them "Nadzieja i Zagłada" (Hope and Genocide, 1995), "Kampania antysyjonistyczna w Polsce 1967-1968" (Anti-Zionist Campaign in Poland 1967-1968, 2000), and "Kraj bez Wyjścia? Migracje z Polski 1948-1989" (A No-Way-Out State? Migrations from Poland 1948-1989, 2010). A long-standing academic lecturer, i.a. at the Collegium Civitas, the Warsaw School of Economics, and the Centre of Migration Research at the University of Warsaw. Chair of the International Auschwitz Council since 2024, he is also a member of Academia Europaea and numerous boards of both museums and academic institutions in Poland and abroad.
In the years 2014-2019, Professor Stola served as Director of POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews. During this time, he oversaw, among other things, the opening of the Core Exhibition and the development of the Museum program, including commemoration of the 50th anniversary of March '68 events. In 2026, he once again assumed the post of POLIN Museum Director for a five-year term.
Professor Stola has received numerous distinctions for his scholarly and public work, including the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the Irena Sendler Award, and the City of Warsaw Prize. In 2025, he was awarded the 'Gloria Artis Silver Medal for Merit to Culture.'
