The Cukerman's Gate Foundation won POLIN Special Award

"There is a time to work, a time to rest, and a time to reflect. There is also a time of joy when you receive a reward for what you have done over the years for the work of the need of the heart, human decency and respect for the past."

"This is exactly what happened on November 30, 2022, when the Brama Cukermana Foundation received the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews Special Award. We were appreciated for saving 'the memory of the borderland from the times of darkness', that is, above all, saving Nuchim Cukierman's private house of prayer, as well as for educational and publishing activities carried out for 14 years – maintaining the memory of the Jewish community from Zagłębie Dąbrowskie and Upper Silesia. This is one of the most important awards that can be received in Poland for this type of activity.

There would be no award if not for the founders of the Foundation – Karolina and Piotr Jakoweńko, who, out of the need to 'preserve what comes from the old existence', decided to save the historic Jewish house of prayer and renting it as an apartment. The story then went uphill and downhill. Today, the Brama Cukermana Foundation is a well cooperating team: Karolina and Piotr Jakoweńko, Grzegorz Onyszko, Andrzej-Anszel Ciepiał, Dr. Aleksandra Namysło, Tomek Grząślewicz and Dariusz Walerjański

For all of us members of our Foundation, Time is important, which, as wise man say, is 'like a river of accidents and a violent stream. For everything has barely appeared, it has already been swept away, and one thing is revealed and another will disappear.'

We would like to thank all those who have supported, helped and sympathized with us over these 14 years, contributing to the Foundation receiving this prestigious award. Stay with us and our common history."
