This short albeit rich in content publication of POLIN Museum was created by the International Center of Photography in New York.

It was designed as a companion to the Roman Vishniac exhibition organised by the ICP and presented in Warsaw between 7 May and 31 August 2015, which was the first exhibition ever to offer a comprehensive presentation of the photographer’s entire oeuvre.

The accompanying text by Maya Benton, the Vishniac Archive curator at the ICP, offers an insight into the successive stages of activity of the man who created the most canonical images that have defined the manner in which the life of the Jews of Central Europe (mostly Polish Jews) shortly before the Holocaust was perceived.
