The "Biographies of Things. Gifts in the Collection of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews" temporary exhibition catalogue is intended both as a presentation of the museum collection of historical keepsakes and as a tale of their erstwhile owners – people of the 20th and 21st century. The objects featured within – ordinary things that went on to become museum pieces – tell a story not just of those 20th- and 21st-century individuals, but also of a modern man as such, who often contributes towards the preservation of such objects for reasons which frequently remain unclear.
The collection of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews is not just a typical collection of Judaica. To a large extent, it remains a collection of gifts, keepsakes related to Polish Jews donated to the Museum in the belief that this is the most appropriate place for them. The exhibition and the accompanying catalogue are dedicated to the Donors of the Museum.
