Frank Stella has passed away
I bid farewell to Frank Stella, one of the most outstanding American artists of the twentieth century and a fascinating, warm, open-minded New Yorker.
In the first years of the POLIN Museum’s operation, we jointly organized an exhibition "Frank Stella and the Synagogues of Old Poland," which was appreciated by both critics and the audience. Not only did the exhibition present Frank’s extraordinary artworks, but it also revealed the fascinating story of their creation. For the first time, the reliefs from the "Polish Village" series were paired with the sources of the artist’s inspiration, namely prewar photos and architectural drawings of synagogues. This collaboration was an honor and a great privilege for us.
My thoughts go out to Frank’s family.
