The Movement of Words – choreographic interventions in the exhibition space

Let us experience "The Power of Words" exhibition in an alternative way!

The choreographic interventions in the space of  "The Power of Words exhibition " are an invitation to a body and sensory experience in which participants discover language through movement. Visitors will become part of a shared exploration of the exhibition space, examining the relationships between languages presented in the exhibition. Jewish languages, connections between them, mutual influences and their relation to the Polish language will be an inspiration to engage in movement. During the interventions the audience will be invited to take part in simple movement-based actions and exercises that help approach words and meanings both through sound and visual form.

Each intervention will last for about 30 minutes, after which time the visitors will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition individually.

The events are open to public—we invite both people who consciously seek alternative ways to experience the exhibition and those who decide to spontaneously join the intervention.

Temporary exhibition (level 0)

  • No thresholds or architectural barriers.
  • Entrance through automatic sliding glass doors.
  • Access to tactile graphics and audio description.
  • Free loan of portable induction loops, mobile chairs, and noise-cancelling headphones for the duration of the visit. 
  • An accessible toilet equipped with a changing table; tactile signage and Braille markings. 

Weronika Pelczyńska – graduate of the SEAD Experimental Academy of Contemporary Dance in Salzburg, Warsaw University of Technology (Department of Engineering Production and Department of Management), and University of Warsaw (Institute of Polish Culture). Recipient of the DanceWEB 2013 ImpulsTanz scholarship, Carte Blanche 2013, and the Alternative Dance Academy scholarships in 2017 and in 2019. A scholarship holder of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in 2021 and the City of Warsaw in 2022. As a dancer and performer, Weronika has collaborated with artists in Poland, Germany, Austria, France, and Croatia. Since 2010, she has been developing choreography for theater performances, films, music videos, and commercials. Since 2011, she has been running individual and collective movement projects. In the years 2018–2020, she was part of the international ICoDaCo collective. She lectures at the Theater Academy in Warsaw and is a member of the Center for Movement and the Sisterhood Practices initiative. In her choreographic practice, Weronika is interested in creating a shared space while simultaneously highlighting the individual. She perceives dance as a channel for social emancipation of gender, historical, cultural, and racial stereotypes.

Aleksandra Janus – doctor of anthropology, Chair of the Zapomniane Foundation, co-founder of the “Engaged Memory Consortium,” curator of the “Exercising Modernity” program, director of the ESHEM: European Sites of Holocaust Memory initiative of the European Commission. Aleksandra is an associate of the Center for Research on the Cultures of Memory at the Jagiellonian University, member of the board of the “Staging Theory” publishing series (Jagiellonian University & Columbia University Press), and member of the "Thinking Through the Museum" international network. In her academic and creative work, Aleksandra explores cultures of memory, strategies of commemoration and processes of institutionalizing discourses on the past, as well as interventions in the contemporary landscapes of memory. She collaborated with Dr Natalia Romik on the research project which produced the exhibition titled: “Hideouts. The Architecture of Survival.” She is co-author and co-editor of the two-volume publication titled “Nie-miejsca pamięci” (Non-places of Memory, 2021) and a co-founder of the “Museums for Climate” group and the “Culture for Climate” collective.

Katarzyna Sikora – dancer, performer, choreographer, Katarzyna holds MA in Dance Theater Studies. Graduate of the Dance Theater Faculty in Bytom, branch of the Ludwik Solski Theater Academy in Kraków, she was granted scholarship from the Folkwang Universitat der Kunste in Essen. She holds a certificate in “Bio-Massage and Wellness Therapy” and completed a course in “Deep Tissue Massage and Fascial Therapy.” Katarzyna cooperated with the National Opera, Zachęta National Art Gallery, CSW Warsaw, Museum of Modern Art Warsaw, Royal Opera in Stockholm, Komuna Warszawa theater, Dramatyczny Theater, Studio Theater and TR Warszawa theater.
