European Heritage Days
On September 15, 2013, the Museum will join in the celebration of European Heritage Days. Join us for free “Discover the Museum” tours and family Yiddish and Hebrew language workshops.
Program:
- “Discover the Museum” guided tours for adults and children
During the tour visitors will get to know the history of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews and of the place where it is located. We will also tell the legend of „Polin”, the name inscribed on the glass panels covering the building. Participants will reflect on different interpretations of the symbolism of the building, designed by Rainer Mahlämaki, and will be invited to visit all the currently available areas. They will also see a film about the Core Exhibition, scheduled to open at the beginning of 2014.
Tours will depart from the main hall at:
Polish: 10.30 AM, 11.30 AM, 12.30 PM, 2.00 PM, 3.30 PM
English: 11.00 AM, 12.00 PM, 1.00 PM, 2.00 PM
- Workshops for parents and children “The Name Means… – Hebrew Workshops”
11.30 AM – 1.00 PM
During the workshops participants will get to know the basic features of the Hebrew alphabet and will find out about the Hebrew roots of many popular Polish names. They will learn to introduce themselves and how to write their names in Hebrew. At the end of the workshop they will make T-shirts with their Hebrew names using stencils.
Participants are asked to bring your own T-shirts.
- Workshops for parents and children “Aleph-beis – Yiddish workshops”
11.30 AM – 1.00 PM
The workshop will immerse participants in the world of Yiddish culture through literary texts, songs, images, posters, etc. The participants will have the opportunity to try to read simple texts in Yiddish.

European Heritage Days is Europe’s largest socio-educational project, a festival devoted to the Old Continent’s heritage. The purpose of European Heritage Days is to promote regional cultural heritage and to recall the common roots of European culture.
