Explore Muranów District
A walk through Muranów is a journey across two centuries of Jewish history in Warsaw. Searching for traces of the pre-war Jewish Warsaw, we will look at the lives of its inhabitants and their everyday experiences, preserved in archival photographs. Along the way, we will stop at monuments and murals commemorating the life and struggle of the Jewish community. We will also discuss the post-war reconstruction of the district.
This walk is a great opportunity to reflect on the city – to consider how Muranów’s dramatic past has shaped its present-day landscape and identity.
The Biography of the Ghetto
During this walk, we will explore the history of the Warsaw Ghetto through the lens of individual lives and testimonies. We will learn about the stories of women and men who chose to resist in the face of Nazi terror, as well as the efforts of those who documented the daily life and dilemmas of ghetto inhabitants in the Ringelblum Archive. Participants will read excerpts from eyewitness accounts that reveal a portrait of life under extreme oppression. We will discuss different forms of resistance – from underground education and clandestine press to armed struggle. This walk will attempt to trace the "biography of the ghetto" – a history of courage, determination, and memory.
