Discover the History of Polish Jews
Our guides will take you on a journey through a thousand years of Polish history as told by Poland’s Jewish inhabitants. You will visit towns and villages which were home to the largest Jewish community in the world. We will show you how to explore this rich history in various ways, using artefacts, interactive installations, reconstructions and models in each part of the exhibit, from the Middle Ages through to today.
"The Holocaust Gallery", dedicated to the period of the Second World War, is recommended for children aged 12 or older.
Between the synagogue and the family house – Jewish holidays and celebrations
What does it mean to be a rabbi? Why do Jews celebrate Shabbat? When, during the year, is the time for atonement and repentance? When does a Jewish new year begin? While visiting chosen parts of the Museum’s core exhibit, you will learn how Jews celebrate their holidays, what celebrations accompany birth, entering adulthood, starting a family and death.
The tour does not include the parts of the Museum’s Core Exhibition which are dedicated to the Holocaust and post-War years.
A difficult 20th century
This is a tour devoted to the challenges experienced by Polish Jews in the Second Polish Republic, during the occupation and in the post-War period.
You will start the journey, in the inter-War period, on a busy street of a large Polish city. Next, you will walk through a labyrinth of the ghetto, geting acquainted with the lives of Jews under the Nazi occupation. From there, you will move to the post-War world, to hear why the majority of survivors decided to emigrate and you will learn about the lives of those who stayed in Poland.
The tour includes the parts of the Museum’s Core Exhibition dedicated to inter-War period, the Holocaust and the post-War years.
